Cineon Degrain
Hi,
I’m just learning compositing and have a newbie question for this board. Could anyone inform me whether Cineon files are degrained before being scaled and brought into video. I know you are supposed to degrain if you have to clone or pull a key and then do you regrain or not.
This might seem like a dumb question but since I’m a newbie please don’t be too hard.
Any help would be appreciated.

Where are the files being scaled?
Cineon files are stored in 10-bit log. But there’s no specification for degraining. The film plates I deal with always still have all their grain.
If you need to remove the grain you should do this before doing any scaling or other processing.
The Remove Grain tools in AE 6.5 Pro are very sophisticated, albeit a bit slow.
