The golden age of opening title sequences was the middle 50’s- middle 60’s. Some standouts to look at- Hitchcock’s “North by Northwest” and “Vertigo”, “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”, “Dr. Strangelove”, “Charade” and the Pink Panther movies.

Assuming that your time is worth nothing, that’s true. But when you factor in the cost of your time, it may be quite a bargain to set up a MPB with FCP or at least Veescope or Scopebox.

There’s no reason for you not to use the network to share files. You can certainly copy files from one mac to another.
If you want to edit on one mac with media on another over the network, though, you’ll probably need to use something faster than your existing network, and you may need to work with compressed codecs like DVCPro HD, XDCam or ProRes

All image stabilizers do this. if the stabilizer sees your footage move left, it moves it back to the right. If it sees your footage move up, it moves it back down. So when you move the shot to the right or down, it exposes black on the left or top.

It would be insane if the playhead stayed at the head of a clip after you made an insert edit. The assumption is that you’re going to make another edit.
Imagine that you’re assembling a timeline. You need to quickly edit 5 or 10 or 150 clips into a timlie. Each time the playhead is at the head of the just inserted clip. That would be madness.

No problem! For internships, look first at Deluxe and Technicolor, those are the top labs and they’re international companies. You could also try DuArt and Postworks. there are large post service bureaus like USA Studios and Voltage, and a lot of boutique post houses as well. You may want to pick up a copy of the NY411, NYPG or the MPE guide and cruise through their listings.

You need FCP 6 if you want to transfer directly from an AVCHD camera into FCP. Otherwise, you’ll need to transcode using compressor or MPEG Streamclip or similar.

Um… “skipping a bit” would be an obvious problem. It suggests a physical problem with the tape, or an incompatibility with the deck.

Dropped frames are most often because your hard drive can’t keep up with the capture. But it can also be caused by problems with the deck or tape. Try to find a DVCam deck or camera to use for capture.

That’s true if your timecode & frame rate match. If they don’t then your online editor will have to match your edit shot for shot by eye.
You know, Nancy, you can jump through hoops to make this work with FCP 4.5, or you can simply upgrade to FCP 6.x and it will just work. How valuable is your time? How important is this project?

Not all BMD cards upconvert. If yours does, you need to set that up in the BMD control panel in your system preferences.
