Look up “Batch Export” in your FCP manual. It will have all of the steps you need to do this.
You can also export your sequences to Compressor as a batch. Select them all, right click & choose Export via Compressor.

If the file names are the same, there should be no problem relinking. He can select all of the files in the FCP browser & relink from there.
If the file names have been changed, then he would have to rebuild his edit.

Your friend really needs to ask the lab. They may want a specific file format, so what I anyone else on this forum prefers is irrelevant.

G5s can definitely run Leopard 10.5.x and FCS 2.
They cannot run Snow Leopard and FCS 3.

You can make a 24P DVD. Your DVD Studio Pro manual explains this.
To make a tape, you will connect your deck to a capture card that will add pulldown as the file plays out.
What capture card do you have? What form of tape do you want to output to?

Pro Res was introduced with FCP 6. If you want to use ProRes, you’ll need to upgrade to FCP 6 or 7.

Funny, I’d go back to front. Select the last clip, type “+5.”. Shift select the next clip forward, type “+5.”, etc.

How much lower end do you really want to get? What’s the point? There’s absolutely no way to connect a video monitor or high speed storage to an iMac, and the single display will be too crowded.
I’m all for saving money where I can, but at a certain point you need to bite the bullet & either admit that you can’t afford something or find the money to do it properly.

How many decks do you have? How many people do you have to run them? I suppose you could always buy more decks…
At some point, someone needs to go through all the footage to break it down. IMO, this is best done by logging before digitizing. That way, you only digitize what’s useful and you only digitize it in the chunks that you’re going to use it in.
