Hi, this might not be right place to ask but I couldn’t find anywhere more appropriate, but basically, we have a lot of betacam tapes to capture, and we were wondering if there is a machine that will capture multiple betacam tapes at once to a hard drive, without the need to go through a capture program/pc/capture cards.

let me know if i need to post this question somewhere else,

    thanks

One machine, one tape, one capture. There is no faster solution.

For best quality, if that’s important at all, you need to use a capture card/io box. ProRes would be the recommended format vs 8 bit uncompressed.

I would farm this job out if you don’t have the necessary hardware.

How many decks do you have? How many people do you have to run them? I suppose you could always buy more decks…

At some point, someone needs to go through all the footage to break it down. IMO, this is best done by logging before digitizing. That way, you only digitize what’s useful and you only digitize it in the chunks that you’re going to use it in.
