  • Export 5D footage converted through render

Hi, a friend of mine edited his short film on FCP, shot with a 5D. He asked me what was the best possible export he could get to send to the color correction lab. I asked him how he converted his files to PRORES that he said he was using, he said he just dumped all the clips on the timeline, and rendered the whole thing, then copy/pasted from that sequence to the edit one… So his “conversion” sequence must have been set to PRORES first I think.

Although I don’t think his worklow is really “kosher”, is there a way he can relink his final cut to the original 5D .mov files for export?

    Thanks.

[Ignatius Gorin] “He asked me what was the best possible export he could get to send to the color correction lab.”

Your friend really needs to ask the lab. They may want a specific file format, so what I anyone else on this forum prefers is irrelevant.

Thanks for your input. You’re right.

Regardless of the format they will ask, is there a way to relink to the original files, so it can export from these (vs. PRORES files), regardless of export format?

    TIA.

If the file names are the same, there should be no problem relinking. He can select all of the files in the FCP browser & relink from there.

If the file names have been changed, then he would have to rebuild his edit.

Thanks. He’s coming today. I will also try deleting the project’s render files and see how it goes.
