Do you mean interlacing?
If so that’s normal. You should use an external video monitor connected to a capture card if you want to see interlaced video in it’s proper state.

Assuming your friend can restore the files (this is a very big if, btw), the odds are that many of the files will be corrupt or incomplete. And how, exactly are you planning on figuring out the file names?
Recapture. This way, you know it’s guaranteed to work properly.
You’ve learned a valuable lesson- back up early, back up often. 100 hours of your time is the ‘tuition’ that you paid to learn it.

That’s true for business & office type of apps, but HD video still requires being able to connect to a very fast drive array- still a problem for most laptops.
What’s more, your typical laptop (both Mac & PC) will have no more than one express slot, so it will be impossible to connect to both high speed storage & video I/O. IOW, you’re not going to be able to work with uncompressed video and see it live on a monitor, let alone capture or lay off to tape.

Get a mixer. Both Behringer & Mackie mixers are very good values.

Take a look at these media drives with HDMI output. Western Digital, La Cie & many others are making them. They’re often less than $200, and many support playlists & looping.

BTW, what’s the original media? If it’s tape, then it might be fastest just to recapture.

They’re not really multiples of the same clip. When you asked Media Manager to delete the unused media, it broke the clips up into sections. These sections can’t share the same name or they’ll overwrite each other, so they get numbered sequentially.
You might try exporting an EDL from the new edit & relinking that to your original source media.
