  • Compressor BluRay HDCP Question

Posted by John Pale on May 21, 2010 at 8:06 pm

Does anyone know whether BluRay discs created with Compressor have HDCP copy protection?

I am guessing they don’t, but I am don’t really know…and there is no documentation about it. (this is a video I am creating…NOT a Hollywood movie).

The disc would eventually captured via HDMI (or HD-SDI, through a converter) into a digital playback system for a live event. The thought was, mastering to BluRay was way cheaper than renting an HDCAM deck…but I don’t want any issues with unneeded copy protection getting in the way.

They have no copy protection whatsoever.

Just what I wanted to hear. I didn’t think so, but wanted to confirm.

    Thanks

Take a look at these media drives with HDMI output. Western Digital, La Cie & many others are making them. They’re often less than $200, and many support playlists & looping.

No need for playlists and looping. Show elements will be played back in theater using a Profile (or EVS or similar device). I just need something to master to, since I can’t output from FCP directly to the Profile. In previous years, we output to HDCAM tape with expensive deck rentals. Client is looking to eliminate that expense but stay HD. I already have the BluRay burner and the picture quality should be adequate. The portability and durability of the media is a nice plus too.

The KiPro has replaced the expensive decks.
