Yup, just read that in the NY Times. I find it ironic that MS & IBM are coming full circle. As for Apple & Intel, wow! I’m flabbergasted!

If you have Motion, you might want to do your rostrum moves there. Last month I tried a slide show in Motion just as an experiment, & I immediately decided that I’ll never do another one in FCP as long as I have Motion available to me. It’s waaaayyy faster for me, & I feel like I have much more control.

First, I’d be willing to bet that you have a slash/ in your file name. Remove it & you’ll be fine. Unix does not like filenames with slashes in them. If you want, you can replace the slash with an underscore_ or a hyphen-.
Second, you really need to save a lot more often than every 40 minutes. Personally, I reflexively save anytime I get something the way I like it, any time that I decide to go back & try something different, or any time I decide to change gears & move on. Autosave is not a replacement for being careful & methodical. The people who complain about autosave not working right are always the ones who go hours on end without saving their work.

Only you can tell what your needs really are. Only you know what kind of work you’re really good at, only you know what kind of work really want to do… or are willing to take on when you can’t find that work.

I doubt that either your timeline or project file are corrupt. Your workflow, however…
Imagine this: Your original clips were pints of milk. You whole tape captures are gallon jugs. You’ve emptied all of the pints & are now trying to refill them from the gallons, but there’s too much milk, & you can’t stop pouring once you’ve started. Now the milk is all over your counter. That’s basically what’s happening with your media.

Well, redigitizing is probably the best, easiest way for you to fix this problem. If that’s not really possible, you may have to reconstruct your edit from scratch. If you do redigitize, you should use a backup from the auto-save vault that predates your attempt to reconnect to the longer files.

Probably, at some point, yes. But more importantly, manufacturers are starting to move away from CRTs, regardless of whether or not they’re still better. At some point soon, you’ll have no choice. And we’ll just have to get used to it.

Select the edit with either the Roll or Ripple tool (doesn’t matter which), then trim 1 frame forward, which “unrenders” it, then 1 frame backward, to where you started. Render, rinse, repeat.

All I can say is that my experience has been different. I upgraded to 10.3.9 when it came out, but have stayed with QT 6.5.2, & all is well. But, that’s my setup. Clearly yours are different.

Just so you know, upgrading to 10.3.9 will not upgrade QT at the same time. Those are separate upgrades, and you don’t have to click the “yes” button when Software Update offers any upgrade to you. In fact, you can disable specific types of upgrades in SU so that you won’t , for example, be bothered with upgrades for the iPod or iSight that you don’t own.
