If you upgrade your os to 10.3.9, it will force you to upgrade your Quicktime to 7 or you can not play a Quicktime file. If you have Quicktime Pro 6, you will essentially lose your Pro application by upgrading to 10.3.9.

Apple currently has no fix. My FCP lab’s workflow is deadd in the water.

Move your quicktime pro 6 version out of the applications folder and it will not be affected by the upgrade to 7.

You will still be able to open files in QT6 and have the pro features.

We have 2 FCP systems running FCP HD. My system is having no problems with 10.3.9 and QT Pro 6.5.2. The other system last week wasn’t able to open certain FCP projects which had been saved the previous day. It would get to about 25% of the file open and then unexpectedly quit. Other projects opened fine but this one project wouldn’t open. We even opened an old version, rerendered and saved again but the next day the new version wouldn’t open. So I downgraded to OS 10.3.8 on that system and it seems to have fixed the problem.

My system has been working fine since 10.3.9 was installed several weeks ago. I haven’t had any problems with FCP or QT files. I haven’t seen any loss of functionalty in FCP. Do all QT files have problems on your systems?

Just reinstall 6.5.2 & life will be well again. After you re-install your code again, course 🙂

    Hi,

You can stay with QT6. Download the last installer for QT6 from Apple.

First, Move Quicktime 7 out of the App folder. Put it on the desktop.

Now, install the QT6 from Apple you just downloaded. Once installed, rename it something so that you know it is QT6.

Put new quicktime back in the App folder.

Launch the QT6 and enter your QT6 serial number. Now you have QT6 pro.

Of course you could always just pay the extra $30 for QT7 Pro. Either way its not a big deal.

    Best Wishes,

    Mitch

I just spoke with my Apple rep and a SOfware Engineer. They tell me I need to do a reinstall (or disc image) or buy the upgrade to Pro 7 which they will reimburse me for on future purchases.

I only have 6 machines that have Q7 installed, so my pro features are gon there. Every other machine that has 10.3.9 on it will not play Quicktime files with 6.5.2 on it. It tells me I must upgrade to Quicktime 7.

Yes, and I’ve emailed Apple, since I had bought my Pro key a couple of months ago… It’s been more than 2 weeks and still no answer from them.

    markyyy.

Don’t these statements seem to contradict each other? If 10.3.9 worked “fine” then you wouldn’t have had to downgrade back to 10.3.8 right?

I’m with Mike… Stay away from 10.3.9 unless you have a good reason to upgrade.

I’m not sure what your precise issue is but there is nothing to be afraid of if you read the fine print and keep your cool.

The panic over 10.3.9 and QT7 is many weeks old and the weird situations were not universal.

We successfully ran the 10.3.9 upgrade on two FCP4.5 systems and never had a peep out of QT6.5+. We did not upgrade to QT7 till we went to Tiger and we didn’t go to Tiger till we had the FCP5 upgrades in-house so we could install the Pro thingy.

Just so you know, upgrading to 10.3.9 will not upgrade QT at the same time. Those are separate upgrades, and you don’t have to click the “yes” button when Software Update offers any upgrade to you. In fact, you can disable specific types of upgrades in SU so that you won’t , for example, be bothered with upgrades for the iPod or iSight that you don’t own.
