I have sent files from FCP to Protools for mixing. FCP has an option to export an OMF file, which will carry all of the audio exactly as it was in your timeline. However, it will not export any filters or volume information.
When your mix is done, the sound editor bounces you a series of .aif or .wav files, one for each channel of the mix. You just have to import each file & add it to your program. If you made your export properly, the head of each audio file should line up with the head of your timeline.
For safety, you should put a “2 pop” at the head & an “end pop” at the tail of your program: a 1 frame visual cue that lines up with a 1 frame audio cue.

So far as I know (without ever having bought from any of them), Microboards, Rimage & Primera are top brands in this field.
Look at the features/price vs what features you’re looking for/what you want to pay.
Look at their support & service. You should be able to find & download their docs easily.
Do they have a forum here at the Cow? On their own site? Someplace else? The traffic shouldn’t be all negative.

And on the job spec. And on how loud a voice the people who like your cut have. And whether it fits the timeslot. And whether the timeslot has changed since 2:00 O’Clock. And the tide… And the phase of the moon….

QT 7 is backward compatible. It will play any file made in a QT6 codec that you have installed. But you used a QT7 codec, & expected QT6 (or perhaps 5, or 4?) to be forward compatible. That’s quite a different thing.

You have to ask the station.
Each TV station at every network has their own, in house way of doing things. What may seem simple & intuitive at one station, may seem completely alien to another down the block, even it it’s owned by the same parent!
And it’s entirely possible that the station you want to deliver to has to jump through 2 or more hoops to get the file from disk to air. If they have to jump through 1 hoop, that’s one too many, as far as they’re concerned.
You really need to speak to an engineer at the station you’re delivering to to find out EXACTLY what their requirements are.

If you clean your heads as recommended by your deck’s manufacturer, you should be able to get 4 or 5 passes out of any decent quality DV tape before you start to see dropouts. But be safe & use a new tape for the final master.

Both your speakers & your video monitor should be connected to your deck while capturing & laying off to tape. That way, you’re always monitoring what’s on the tape.

That’s right. DVDSP (not FCP) will always place a marker at the head of a track. It will give you an error if there’s a chapter marker to close to the head of the track. I think the next marker has to be at least 2 seconds further down.
