Put one clip on V1, & the other on V2. Overlap them for the duration of the transition that you want. Razor blade the upper clip into 2 so that one piece is only the length of the transition, then apply the Blink filter to that section.

You might want to look through what’s available at either toolfarm.com or pluginz.com. Both sell a wide variety of plugins for FCP. Also look specifically at the sets from CGM & CHV, they might have such plugins as transitions, or if they’re not specifically transitions, it’s often possible to make use of one as a transition by adding it to both clips & keyframing the parameters on one end to take you into the tranny, & the other to take you out.

FCP 4 & 5 will both accept some Audio Units filters. There aren’t as many AU filters as there are VST filters, but they certainly cover all of the basics & all of the most popular effects. You will not get the cute UI that makes a lot of these filters easier to use, however, just the same generic UI that FCP’s built in audio filters use.

Go to Apple’s web site, click on the support tab, & enter that error message into the search field. This is a well documented problem, & Apple has published a white paper on it that also gives you the work arounds.

Short answer: you don’t. You need to blow up the footage. If it was captured as anamorphic, you shouldn’t need to adjust the aspect ratio. If you tried to capture it as 4:3, however, you may need to adjust the aspect. Try -33.33 or -34.

it’s stopping roughly at the same spot…”Aha! Clearly, there’s something wrong at that spot. Look at all your audio. Look at your picture. What’s funky? Make sure that both audio & picture are fully rendered at that spot. In some, odd occasions, it’s possible for a problem in the picture to effect the audio (& vise versa). Check your luma & chroma levels for spikes near that spot. While you’re at it check the audio for spikes, dropouts, or just general funkiness.

Further to Jerry’s suggestion, have you checked the Aurora web site to see if you have the current driver for your card? Even if you do, you should make sure that your version of FCP, QT, OS, etc are the same versions that they’ve certified. You may have to back some piece of software up to a previous version of to get back to that tested, verified, certified level.

There is no pitch shift in FCP. I don’t think very many NLEs would have such a feature, though most audio editors should have it. If you don’t have SoundTrack Pro, you should have gotten a free copy of Peak DV or Peak LE with FCP, or you could download the free, open source, audio editor Audacity at https://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/mac.

FCP can only capture from 1 source at a time. You’d need to rout the audio signals through a mixer to the camera, or possibly all the audio & video through a Firewire switcher (do such things exist?) & then into FCP.
