Capturing audio separate from a camera?
I’m trying to do direct capture over firewire from a camera (tape is just so ’90s…). I usually mix my audio from ~5 mic’s using a MOTU Traveler box or some other firewire audio breakout box.
When I go into FCP and into the capture module, I don’t see a way to set it to capture video off the camera and audio off the box. Is this possible? I’m trying my damndest to avoid having to use a slate and match up audio to video in post.

FCP can only capture from 1 source at a time. You’d need to rout the audio signals through a mixer to the camera, or possibly all the audio & video through a Firewire switcher (do such things exist?) & then into FCP.

If I were to use one of these, I’d still only be able to capture a maximum of 2 audio tracks, no? My understanding was if I mix down into the camera (with these or some other box), I still only stuff 2 audio tracks onto the DV tape, and cant break them out again later.
What I’m really going for is being able to pick and choose in post, which mic got the best pickup at any given point, so I basically want to capture all 8 or 12 audio channels discreetly, and have them all be correctly sync’d to the video.
