I’m sure you folks have covered this before so if you will point me to the correct archive to solve the problem I’d apreciate it.

I want to begin recording 16×9 footage using a Sony D-50 camera but I want to continue editing in FCP 4×3. I’m doing this to allow me to slowly build a 16×9 library of footage so when my company moves to widescreen display devices I’ll have plenty of WS footage to use in future programs.
I’ve recorded 16×9 footage and tried to capture the center 4×3 portion of that footage in FCP through my Cinewave card without luck. I’ve changed the Cinewave preferences to Center Scan but I still get 16×9 in FCP. How do you do this?

    OS 10.3.3
    Cinewave 4.6 RT Pro
    FCP HD 4.5

Short answer: you don’t. You need to blow up the footage. If it was captured as anamorphic, you shouldn’t need to adjust the aspect ratio. If you tried to capture it as 4:3, however, you may need to adjust the aspect. Try -33.33 or -34.
