Did you not have a UV filter on the lens? It’s a good idea to keep a UV filter on all your lenses to protect them from scratches, etc- a broken UV filter is quick & cheap to replace.

Which is to our benefit. Not just because it’s annoying, but because this would be a security hole. Viruses & other malware can use this ‘feature’ in IE on Windows to lodge themselves into your PC. Why leave the door open?

You can import a Motion project into FCP just like any other movie file. In FCP use File>Import>Files and navigate to the motion project you want to import.
But you will still need to render the file in your FCP timeline. The benefit is that you don’t need to render or export out of Motion first, so you only need to render one time, not two.

Why do you need to go to FCP? If you can export a tiff sequence directly from the Symphony to import into Shake, you’ll save yourself some time & effort.

I wouldn’t really compare the two. The Marshall has only 480 lines, the Panny is closer to 800 lines. Also, the Panny has 2 SDI ins & outs plus all of the analog i/o, the Marshall only has analog.
What do you want, a monitor you can mount on the camera or tripod, or a monitor that you can have nearby?

That’s the beauty of some of the newer codecs. You don’t need to offline if you’re working with DVCPro HD or XDCam HD.

HDV is 25 Mb/s, which off the top of my head is something like 3.2 MB/s- bits vs Bytes. I’m making a rough calculation that you’ll need around 480 GB of storage for 30 hours of footage at 35Mb/sec (around 4.4 MB/sec). Unless you’re planning on conforming as 1080 uncompressed, you should be very comfortable 1TB of disk space.
