[Noah Kadner] “Yes obvious to a considerable degree but if it’s a “crash camera” people expect it to look different from the main camera especially in sports.”

You can make that difference work for you. It becomes a visual cue that you’re using the ‘helmet cam’, ‘handlebar cam’, or whatever, giving it a different, more immediate feel to the viewer.

The same method of using a CC’d clip to pull the key & an uncorrected clip use for the foreground will work with Shake. I learned about it from a compositor who uses Illusion. I’ve found that it makes a huge difference. Some shots that were hell become very quick & easy to pull a key from.

I’ll try reversing the cable on Monday, when I get back to the studio, & post back on if it works or not.

Thanks, Bob, but I already toggled those audio settings in FCP. And the embedded audio is working fine, it’s the analog from the K3 box to the mixer that we’re missing.

How well did you shoot the keys? If they’re well shot, you should be able to pull a good key in either Motion or Shake, if they’re poorly shot, you may not be able to easily pull a key in either.

I’ve been using Conduit from DV Garage in both Motion & FCP, it works very well in both programs with properly shot keys. For problematic shots, I’ve been Color correcting for the key in FCP, then exporting 2 tiff sequences, 1 with the CC & one without. The corrected key usually keys out very quickly, then you use that as a track matte for the uncorrected shot.

  • I’m using one of these: https://www.pc-pitstop.com/sata_enclosures/scsat84x.asp
$409, with fans out the wazoo! 3 fans for the chassis, plus one fan on each tray. They also sell 10 & 12 drive enclosures, and enclosures and these enclosures are available with eSATA connectors.

Apply the behavior to the layer the text is in, not the text itself.

[ugadtp] “I am switching only video between the two pices of footage…
When I begin editing in realtime my edits do not take.”

This is because you are switching when you should be cutting. Multicam allows for both. Cutting actually makes the cuts in your timeline & changes the angle, switching merely changes the angle of the clip under the playhead.

Trapcode’s Starglow does this, but it no longer works in FCP 5.x. Sapphire has 1 or 2 filters in their lighting box that does this.

[gary adcock] “The output does NOT work with any of the native “N” shooting modes.”

Actually, it does. You can output from the RGB in HD, or from the S-video or composite in SD in the 720/24PN mode. We used a 17″ Panasonic BT-LH1700W on set. It’s a very good monitor that can be easily carried in the field.
