Is anyone using an external preview NTSC monitor with a HVX200?

I used to use my DVX100 and it output to my monitor just fine, but since I bought my new HVX200 it wont give me an external preview.

    Anyone help?

For DV or DVCPro HD? I think for DV that will work, but not DVCPro HD.

What does the manual say? Does the 200 support that?

you have to set the output to NTSC if you are working with HD footage. The output does NOT work with any of the native “N” shooting modes.

    What Gary said.

For monitoring DVCPRO HD on that camera, if it isn’t a native mode. Although the image you monitor won’t be something you can color correct to. I remember routing a signal thru the camera at NAB. Computer to camera via firewire, then S-Video to the monitor. But you had to press a few buttons on the camera. Dang it, I don’t have a camera on me to figure this out.

For monitoring on a color correction monitor, you will need a capture card like the AJA Kona series or even Matrox MXO. The MXO will allow you to view the image on an Apple Cinema Display.

Or you can route thru an AJ-HD1400 or 1200 deck. But those are mighty expensive.

Actually, it does. You can output from the RGB in HD, or from the S-video or composite in SD in the 720/24PN mode. We used a 17″ Panasonic BT-LH1700W on set. It’s a very good monitor that can be easily carried in the field.
