other (cheaper) cameras
I am shooting a documentary about winter sports and I need to shoot in situations that could put my HVX-200 at risk. Therefore, I am considering a smaller camera I can carry in my parka. If I bought say a cannon hv10 to use on certain shoots, would there be obvious differences with the 720p/30 pn video and the video from the HV10? Is this a nightmare waiting to happen? I’ll be editing on FCP.

Yes obvious to a considerable degree but if it’s a “crash camera” people expect it to look different from the main camera especially in sports.

You can make that difference work for you. It becomes a visual cue that you’re using the ‘helmet cam’, ‘handlebar cam’, or whatever, giving it a different, more immediate feel to the viewer.
