That’s odd. Whenever I recieved DV tapes with 32k audio, I simply captured it using the 48k preset. FCP always seemed to do the upsampling just fine for me. But the last time I had to do this was over a year ago with FCP 5.0.x or maybe 5.1.2.

Select all the clips you want to move, then hold down the option key & press the up arrow. Alternatively, select the clips, grab one with the mouse, press the shift key & drag up.

[JezzFush] “We are shooting the bulk of our footage against a green screen on a Panasonic AG-HPX500 P2 camera. The footage is coming out of the camera via sdi and into an Ultimatte 11 compositing device… From there it is ingested into final cut pro 6 via sdi and a Black Magic Decklink HD Extreme capture card for (hopefully) a live capture.”

Are you trying to capture from the Ulitmatte, or from the camera? Your Decklink card cannot cross-convert 1080i to 720P. For that you need a Kona 3 or a Terranex. Perhaps you can set the Ultimatte to 720P?

If you don’t need any transparency inside of FCP, you can simply render straight out of Motion, or export from Motion via Compressor. Rendering straight from Motion seems to be the fastest. Perhaps because it’s using the GPU? (Perhaps I’m just dreaming about that?)

FCP does not work that way. Either have the director pony up more money for deck rental, or get him to speed up, or live with the subclips.

You can simply drag the files out of the Trash & back to their original (or any) Capture Scratch folders, then reconnect the media.

Next time, don’t insert the template until you’ve nearly locked your edit. If you didn’t have the template to worry about, you wouldn’t have needed to render as much. Or, you can put your photos over the template, but keep the template’s track turned off.

I’ve been using 500GB WD drives in an 8 drive RAID for about a year. 1 drive died last month. All I had to do was plug the serial # of the dead drive & my return shipping info into the support page on their website, print out an RMA shipping label, pack up the drive & mail it in. The replacement showed up something like a week later. You can do the same over the phone. With warrantee service like that, I wouldn’t think twice about buying another WD drive.

Since you already have Shake & AE, make a test. Create a clips reel. Use 3-5 seconds of what look like the most problematic shots. Make the reel 3-5 minutes in length. Run it through Compressor, Shake & AE. Then play the results on your HD monitor & see which looks best.
