See, I think that this is a very important point. At least he’s got good feedback on eBay. More than I can say for his “day” employer.
Seriously, nobody at Newark airport noticed all the missing luggage complaints? I understand that individual complaints go to individual airlines, but these guys should be looking for patterns like this.

Short answer: rotoscope or shoot this on a greenscreen stage.
Longer answer: read the “Encyclopedia of Visual Effects”.

I would second the Nattress plugins. You should also go to toolfarm.com & take a look at what other people are offering, though, particularly Red Giant’s Magic Bullet Look Looks and Sapphire. Most plugin sellers offer a free trial download of some type.

[phinneas bremer] “Unfortunately, these files were erased from the memory cards before being backed up to a second drive.”
Not that it will help you now, but in the future, you should have a good backup strategy in place when using tapeless camera systems. You really need to have multiple backup copies of the original card dumps, including their original directory structure. Keep each backup set in a different place.
That helps to protect you against data loss, but it also insures that you’ll be able to use the footage on systems other than FCP.

Digibeta should not have tri-level sync. Your generator should be set to NTSC or PAL for use with digibeta. Also, some decks cannot do inserts, some need to have the proper menu settings for inserts.

October 16, 2008 at 5:08 pm in reply to: color correction help for NFL Highlight tape[Kevin Monahan] “You do have more control if the subject is matted though, no?”
Yup. That’s why I suggested using Color with a vignette.
It’s possible to do something similar in FCP with Magic Bullet Colorista, or even with FCP’s native 3-way or 2-way. What I’ve done in the past with FCP’s native CC tools is use a travel matte to isolate the area I wanted to work on.

[Matt Gerard] “If you have a kona card installed, and you go to that list (option+apple+Q) it fills your screen with a list of every possible framerate and resolution in SD and HD that is a pain to scroll through to get to the right setting. “
And you don’t find this convenient? Next you’ll be saying that you don’t like paying your taxes!

But how would the engineers at AJA know which options you regularly use? Unless, your shop is located right next to them, it would be hard.
You can remove some setups yourself. Go to Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Custom Settings. You’ll find all of your easy setups there. Simply remove the ones that you don’t want (maybe after you make a backup of the folder, first!).

[Ben Lithman] “you can have a little slider that goes across the image you are colour correcting and on one side of it you see what the image looked like before, and on the other you can see what it will look like after. “
That’s called a split-screen. Look under the Tools menu. BTW, that’s in your FCP manual.

[Jared Hawco] “Some instructions would help big time.”
Your FCP manual explains how to lay off to tape using either “Print to Video” or “Edit to Tape”. Look up either one in the online help.
The manual for the DVX will explain how to set it up to record over firewire.
