Looked good on what? Your properly calibrated broadcast reference monitor? The no-name monitor that was on sale at Wal-Mart?
And were you watching your video scopes to make sure that you were getting the best range of contrast, that you were inside the gamut of your video standard?

What kind of image sequence? And how did you convert that to QT? If you need to see the bit depth of an image from the sequence, open one up in Photoshop & look at the color space & mode.

You can use the “slug” for this. It’s a generator that will place a black clip in your timeline.

FCP is not a music recording or composing program, so it’s not surprising that it wouldn’t use MIDI. The world of video uses RS-422 or RS-232 machine control. And, sorry, FCP does not slave. For that you would need something like Virtual VTR.

Back up early, back up often. Not having a regular backup policy is like playing Russian roulette with your business.
[Dennis Leppell] “Very very bad, since recapturing the commercials alone would take upwards of a week.”
Weigh that cost against the cost of a few extra drives for backup. Keep an eye on sales through dealmac.com.

[David Keslick] “You can edit in 29.97 and convert your finished project to PAL with DVFilm Atlantis.”
You can edit in 29.97 and convert to PAL with Compressor, which does a fairly good job and is installed with FCP.

Or you can export in a common codec, like photo-JPEG.

February 15, 2009 at 7:52 pm in reply to: Can these two effects be done in Motion? After Effects video tutorial links included. The first effect, with the freeze frames of the birds, can be done in Motion 3 using it’s tracking system and masking system. You can use a strobe filter to make freeze frames. Parenting is handled differently in Motion. To parent objects together, you place them in the same layer, and apply movements or scaling to the entire layer. Tracking and masking are explained in the manual.
The second effect, where the baseball breaks the glass is a bit more complicated. All of the baseball motion can be handled in much the same way as in AE, or with behaviors like Throw and Spin, but Motion does not have a shatter effect. You would have to work something out with the Replicator or particles, instead.
