Can these two effects be done in Motion?

A few things these effects contain that I am interested in:

    1. The ability to track (“parent”?) masked freeze frames and gradient-type filters to multiple tracking points (“nulls”?) for panned shots. I’m really interested in everything that’s done in the Analyzing Motion video.

    2. The ability to make a masked object burst into custom particles, such as “glass” but with various pictures on the particles. It would be interesting to be able to use tracking points with this, too, for instance if I am using footage that pans away from the bursting object and then back on the object while it slowly bursts. The bursting effect is in the Shattering Glass tutorial.

    Thanks in advance,

Neither one of those links work. Perhaps you can repost them?

The first effect, with the freeze frames of the birds, can be done in Motion 3 using it’s tracking system and masking system. You can use a strobe filter to make freeze frames. Parenting is handled differently in Motion. To parent objects together, you place them in the same layer, and apply movements or scaling to the entire layer. Tracking and masking are explained in the manual.

The second effect, where the baseball breaks the glass is a bit more complicated. All of the baseball motion can be handled in much the same way as in AE, or with behaviors like Throw and Spin, but Motion does not have a shatter effect. You would have to work something out with the Replicator or particles, instead.

Thanks for the reply. I thought no one had responded, but just checked my Spam box and the notification was there. So you can indeed use multiple tracking points and track filters and freeze to them in Motion — great. I’d rather do effects in Motion because I’m using FCP and I’ve read that there’s a gamma shift to worry about when roundtripping to AE. Only problem is no tutorials for this kind of thing. Time for The Manual.
