  • Hi

I got some good results with –

    3D stroke
    Roughen edges
    CC Blobbylize

all applied to a set of coiled up paths: think of them as a nest of snakes – animate the ‘head’ end in the direction of trickle by moving the end points and also keyframing the ‘end’ property in 3D stroke, then select a bunch of points in the main part and scale them up to make the ‘splat’ bigger (if you need to, I was doing more of a blood-seeping-out-then-trickling thing)

Contact me if you want to see a clip and/or want more detailed settings

Thanks, I’ve managed to import .3DS models – pretty cool! But when I experimented with a model of the USA as flat blocks I couldn’t ‘ungroup’ the blocks. I want to be able to select the top face and change its properties, bevel etc. Is this usual with 3D models? Or is it down to how the modeller made this particular model?

Sorry if this is a really stupid question; can I use any of these 3D models in AE Pro 6.5 without a 3D app?

    Thanks

Yes, the layer is 3D and there is no animation on that layer.

By pre-comping and switching off ‘collapse transformations’ I get the motion I want, but the quality of the effect drops, it’s really soft. So either the motion or the quality…

    I have Dave, thanks.

But why do you say the two layers are not the same size? If you look at the info in the project window you will see they are both 3334×2757 and both scaled to 40%. How are they different?

    Thanks Dave

I have had to make-do by putting the path onto the map-layer, mostly because I have no idea why the solid layer is not aligning with the map-layer

As you can see, all the parameters are the same and the layers are exactly the same size, yet they are way off.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks Mathew

I am using non-square but surely this wouldn’t matter if I was copy/pasting layers within the same comp? And if it is the non-square pixels, this can’t mean I have to avoid widescreen? Anyone know a workaround?

make it as a particle in Particle Playground or Particular, then animate the final guy independently

Thanks guys. The only solution I have found is to pre-comp the solid layer, however this has other implications (why does pre-comping a layer and then applying ‘collapse transformations’ effect the lighting in the main comp?)…

    Cheers
