Every time I copy a mask from one layer and then paste it back into another it distorts from the original. The distortion is non-unform; typically a little wider in some places, taller in others. I thought it may be because they were 3D layers, but turning 3D off makes no difference.

It even occurs going from Illustrator into AE. I take a background map of the UK (a bitmap) that i have in my AE project, import into AI, draw the mask and then copy/paste back into my AE layer. Even though it’s sized from the same source (the bitmap) when it goes into AE it’s a different size.

    What am I missing?

Check to see if you are working in a square pixel comp. Then make sure your footage (the bitmap) is set at square pixels as well. See if this works out.

    Thanks Mathew

I am using non-square but surely this wouldn’t matter if I was copy/pasting layers within the same comp? And if it is the non-square pixels, this can’t mean I have to avoid widescreen? Anyone know a workaround?
