Shooting with a long shutter or wide aperture will produce this. In editing, you might be able to right click on the video clip, go to properties, and lower the under sample rate. See what that does. It basically plays your footage back at the same speed, but with fewer frames. Try different blur settings along with that. There’s probably other ways and plugins to get what you want.

I’ve had problems that vaguely resembled this before, and it was when my render settings didn’t match my project settings. And my project settings didn’t quite match my footage. Can you post all the settings from your project and render? Upload screen caps of each list of settings if it makes it easier.
Also, have you tried rendering footage with no effects and seeing if that looks different? Either way, my guess is that you have project settings that don’t match your footage or render settings, like different frame rates.

What kind of shooting will you be doing? Green posters have worked for me until now, though eventually I’ll get a soccer stand type set up. They’re on amazon for fairly good prices and big sizes, and Penn Camera has them if they’re in your area.

I’m just guessing, but do you have DDR2 or DDR3 RAM? I remember reading that you should have 2 GB of RAM for every CPU you have to run Vegas, so if you have a quad core you should have at least 8 GB of RAM. And DDR3 RAM is faster than DDR2, though more expensive.
What kind of computer did you buy? I’d recommend emailing Sony with all this information, though they haven’t gotten back to me about my many crash reports and the email I sent about them last week.

Just to piggy back on the topic, I tried a demo of Raylight the other day with P2 footage and it converted it, but Vegas crashed immediately when I put the footage on my timeline. I tried it two or three times and gave up.

I have a feeling that if you’re playing the file on other people’s computers then maybe they have their video players configured incorrectly. For instance, in VLC media player, you can pick what aspect ratio you play a video, and when I used it more I would have to manually adjust it for each video. It might just be a coincidence that each person whose computer you’re playing your video on set their aspect ratio on their media players incorrectly. In which case, that’s their problem, there’s still nothing you can do short for the video to change that other than telling them how to adjust their aspect ratio themselves.

I have a comparable Canon Vixia HF S21 and have shot stuff in theater, and I generally will shoot theater in cinematic mode or spotlight (only if the lights are really, really bright). And I shoot in 24 fps because I like the film look and the video comes out brighter.
