you can’t do that with a single keypress Colin, you’ll need a macro or recorded screen action … have a look at QuickKeys maybe?

or set your Playhead Sync mode to Open with the Motion Attributes tab active in the Viewer … then you can just press the Basic Motion reset button as and when necessary

or heaven forbid, just use FCP’s multiclip function 😉

Well its not unique to Premiere, FCP can does this toggle tool key modifier thingy too (for example, hold down the option key when hovering over a clip overlay and your selection tool switches to pen tool) … its just not user definable. 🙁

or go the other way round … copy the new clip, then go to a duplicate of your effected sequence and select the track to replace and choose paste attributes > content

Can’t agree mate. Apple (or whoever) provides us with the tools, but its up to us to use them properly. There’s absolutely nothing whatsoever ridiculous with the concept and implementation of Broadcast Safe as a filter and its function as such … yes of course it could have been implemented differently such as it is in Color, but the same could be sad of pretty much any function in any app. I’d class an independent Broadcast Safe function as a feature request … but there are so many other feature requests that I’d want to see implemented as a greater priority (including track level and output level filter handling, which could be used to the same effect but would offer far greater flexibility as a function) :/

no, the keyboard can be customised of course but not to this extent ie not to create user defined function toggles … but the hand tool can be toggled on with “h” and off again with “a” (or whichever function is needed next) so all the control you need is there, but I guess not in the way you’re looking for I’m afraid

Miranda make the “DV Bridge +” or there’s the Canopus ADVC1000 … both come in at around 2 grand tho

The MXO2 is a great I/O box … I’ve got one and I love it! It’s especially useful for field work as it runs off a standard field battery.
But to be fair its not your only option. AJA also make the new IoExpress You can indeed use the firewire interface of your laptop together with an AJA IoHD to capture your footage to Apple’s ProRes 422 or ProRes 422 HQ codec at full 1920×1080 resolution … something you cannot do with an MXO2 on the same laptop. This is due to AJA’s exclusive built-in hardware encoding/decoding support for Apple’s proprietary ProRes codec. There is also the Motu V4HD I/O device which also connects by firewire and has built in hardware encoding/decoding support for DVCPRO HD. With either system you will also want / need a suitable fast external harddrive for your capture scratch. If you go with the MXO2 for example, then you’ll probably need a FW800 attached RAID for best results. If you go with the AJA or Motu then you’d want / need an ExpressCard/34 eSATA adapter together with an eSATA drive or array for your capture scratch disc.

Baz, Has your producer specifically promised that you will provide the footage as DV? If so then your hands are a little tied. You could output a realtime DV downconvert via FW from FCP but that would not be of great quality not to mention it being a bit of a pain. If there isn’t a specific promise to provide the footage as DV then you could just dupe the originals and hand it over on a hard disc; let them on the receiving end deal with the footage as they choose.

… as for not wanting to take and SDI to DV convertor with you. If you’ve got one then it would seem to be the much easier option.

What version of FCP are you using at home? IMX support was introduced with FCP 5.1.2
If you are using FCP5.1.2 or greater then I would caution against using the Calibrated Software IMX Decode component as it will directly conflict with the built in support.
