  • What does the red line mean in “Mark Clip”??

Posted by Josh Evans on June 18, 2009 at 6:48 am

I have wondered this for ages but never asked.

SOmetimes when i mark clip, it will neatly be selected with an in out placed at either end.

Other times, it seems more random, selecting larger ranges, or more than one clip, and putting a thin red line between the in out markers. What does it all mean? I never worked it out.

    Am i dumb?

i think it means you need to render the clip.

its a split edit … where you marked video in and out differ from your marked audio in and out

The mark clip X key works in conjunction with the track selector buttons. Your position bar is over a section of a track with no clips on it and your track selector for that track is on. Thus you are selecting a gap rather than a clip. This is why you get the line between the in and out markers. It’s a useful feature.

Andy’s got it. It’s showing split edits.
