Folks seem to be reporting issues with Compressor’s frame controls not functioning correctly under certain circumstances… probably worth checking the Compressor forums if this might be an issue for you.

Good old fashioned Batch Capture is still there Mitch. Could you not use that to recapture via baseband as and when needed? If baseband capture is not an option for you then you can instead archive a copy of your project and footage as OfflineRT HD (using FCP’s Media Manager > Recompress option). When you need to re-access that footage in high res then you can use Bouke’s new XDcam Extract tool to reimport the high res from disc.

I’m thinking you could spend a lot of effort trying to replicate this “Skype” effect .. or you could just send this section of video through Skype and record the output. Might be quicker easier and (importantly) more authentic by ding it that way.

The new FCP 7 release does have 4:3 safe tick marks on their existing guides and they are very much appreciated … it took a lot of whining and jumping up and down to get them to offer us those and although those marks are just a token gesture at this point its definitely a step in the right direction.

As far a I know tho (don’t have an active FCP7 system at the moment) those tick marks are only 4:3 center cut guides and there are still no full 4:3 guides nor 14:9 guides (which is the common broadcast format for repurposed 16:9 content here). My guides plug does offer full 4:3 and 14:9 guides (plus center cross and free guides) and Digital Heavens excellent guide plugins offers the same … and they all still work perfectly well in the new FCP release.

Mine were born out of frustration that there was no easy option for this built right in to FCP and I needed them fro work that I was doing, I dare say Martin’s were born of the same frustration too. Eventually I’m hopeful that Apple will take their own safe guides implementation the extra mile and allow all this directly within the FCP user interface, and completely obviate the need for us all to use any of these third party guides plugins, psd overlays and whatnot, mine included.

There is no means to get the logging data out of XDCAM Transfer and into FCP. What your colleague needs to be using is FCP to log the footage, not XDCAM Transfer.

Have him log directly in FCP then send you a zipped copy of the logged project file ( or an XML export of his logging bin).

It sounds for all the world like the symptoms of field order mismatch. Find an instance of when this is happening and then post back with the clip properties reported by FCP for the flickering footage, plus the sequence properties for the sequence where you are seeing it.

For clip properties, select the flickering clip in the timeline and choose Cmd-9
For sequence properties, select the timeline window and choose Cmd-0 <-- that's a zero by the way 🙂 Also please select one of the clips in the same sequence that is not displaying this flicker, and post back with thart clip's properties too. Best Andy

With that you should be able to use that to import the EDL to FCP and relink directly to the original XDCAM media

Apologies for the misinformation here Paul, it appears that Elgato’s Turbo.264 HD requires an Intel mac.
