  • Attempting to capture HDV footage from Sony HVR-Z1U…

    Good evening…

I’m attempting to capture HDV footage from a Sony HVR-Z1U in Final Cut Pro 7.0 using a MacBook Pro laptop and have not had success. The computer claims it is not receiving data from the camera, yet it is able to control play/stop controls and is recognizing timeline data from the camera.

I was given the following advice which has not worked thus far:

    1. Power down computer and camera and reboot camera, then computer
    2. Upgrade my Final Cut from 6.0 to 7.0 (which did not work and cost $300 plus a 2hr drive to do it legitimately)
    3. Switch the iLink conv setting on the camera to ‘off’
    4. A multitude of Easy Setup & Audio/Video setting adjustment combinations…

Is there something I’m missing?! My cameraman switched to HDV without consulting me and I am on the hook with footage I can’t seem to transfer…

I haven’t done this in a while because I now use an IOHD to get my footage in, but check these items:

On the camera, make sure the VCR HDV/DV is set to auto or HDV (if you’re sure the footage is HDV). iLink Conversion OFF.

In FCP set the easy setup to 1080i60 Firewire Basic and click setup (assuming you’re using firewire to capture).

Don’t change any other settings! If that doesn’t work…try another Firewire Cable!

    Hope that helps. Good Luck!

Let me first ask… Did you clone your drive to a firewire drive, THEN removed FCS2? After this, did you repair your permissions, do a CLEAN install of FCS3, repair your permissions AGAIN, then tried your capture?

This is the ONLY way doing a major upgrade is going to work.

Guys, if this is the same poster (Mylisa?) then I think the issue may be a source format incompatibility
