July 29, 2005 at 2:48 pm in reply to: Avid Media Log equivalent for FCP? Need clients to log.take some care with Avid Media Log / Sebsky Tools however …. in my experience, if you any log clips with audio tracks A3 or A4 then those clips in the resulting FCP Batch List will not translate correctly.
if you log clips only audio tracks A1 and A2 then its an excellent tool

FCP doesn’t operate in a defined 3D space, and I’m not aware of a third party plugin to handle something like extrusion (although i may be wrong). you might want to look at After Effects?

Jeff’s right, you can use the ‘Offset’ value to reposition the image, it works great.
a letterbox matte generator can be useful but is certainly not essential -
under the clip settings tab in the log and capture window, in the audio section to the left of the input channnel meters theres a liitle tape spool icon … selecting it seems to pair the channels. i think thats what you’re lookin for

i just checked back in an old project and that was exactly the issue … FCP had seemingly misinterpreted the field dominance on import (in my case, interpreting a clip as upper field as opposed to lower). switching the field dominance back to lower (or in fact None or Not Set) and all was suddenly rosy in alpha channel land
my humble appologies to anyone who uinistalled/reinstalled FCP5 based on my advice. (i didn’t even do it myself).
however, there does seem to be some issue with files being misinterpreted on import … does anyone know why that is happening and/or could offer some advice on how to remedy this? the same files import/interpret just fine in FCP4.5.
cheers all, and thanks once more to Matt

hi slim
we have to do this kind of thing all the time in order to move subtitles out of frame, so i built a very simple fxscript video generator letter-box to ease the pain. just drag it onto its own layer above the rest of the edit.
if you’d like i’ll gladly send it to you, email me at andymees AT startv DOT com and its yours.cheers

Hi Les
sorry not very helpful, but I’m not entirely sure the DVCPRO codecs are available for d/l for your PC.
these are Panasonics proprietary codecs licensed to Apple … for our graphics/PC work we found it was necessary to adopt an intermidate codec.nonetheless, if you do find them, or someone else has that info, then please post.
best

Hi Gus
You might want to try a Batch Export. It not something I have experience of using but i’ll try to outline it.
Select the clips in FCP’s browser window, then choose ‘Batch Export’ from the File menu.
A new ‘Export Queue’ window should open with those clips inside a folder. select the folder and press the ‘Settings’ button at the bottom of the window.
In the next dialog, under ‘Format’, choose QuickTime (Custom), then select the ‘Options’ button.
Under the ‘Movie Settings’ dialog that opens, again select the (Video) ‘Settings’ button and choose the target Video Codec you want (same as the capture original). Deselect the Sound checkbox. Then Click OK.
Set a Destination for your new clips and click OK again. That should have set everything up to save out new clips whilst stripping out any audio reference.
Click the Export button to start the process.Again, this isn’t something I’ve used, so give it a test run with a single clip first.
Hope it helps

Hi Bret
Thanks for the clarification on item level render.
I’m thinking the reason we were getting the ocasional pop or click on playout to tape is because FCP was rendering audio on the fly, as opposed to pre-rendering as you illustrated (or via my more long winded method!)… does that make sense?cheers
