“wondering if we can skip this step with the hardware we have”

well what hardware do you have? if you have big beefy hardware with good fast RAID storage then one might suggest using Uncompressed … but if you have less powerfull hardware and no RAID at all then one is more likely to suggest using DV

    Hi Victoria

for exporting a large number of your clips as stills, you might find selecting those clips in the browser window, and using File menu >Batch Export to be the best way forward.
in the Export Queue window, press the Settings… button at bottom center to destination for the saved files, the format (Still Image) and the settings for that format
click OK and then press the Export button (at bottom right of the Export Queue window)

the stills will be exported as per the settings, using the media start, or In Point if marked, as the exported frame

    hope that helps

December 7, 2006 at 4:20 am in reply to: Is There a way to Media Manage footage without timecode?

    Hi David
As you’ve noted, Media Management requires timecoded media … thats just the way it is.
If you have captured without timecode, and yet you still want to use the Media Manager to consolidate, then you need to add the necessary timecode to media files.
Take a look at the venerable Sebsky Tools, it includes a Batch Add Timecode function that you may be able to use to save your bacon.
    Cheers

an easy method of advancing field by field …. can’t do it in FCP. ( digital heaven’s excellent dh_dropout plugin allows you to see each field of a specific frame but I realise thata would be a klutzy workaround for what you want not a solution )

  • sorry to be confusing. by autoformatting, I meant the auto-formatting of the posts here on the Cow … it had stripped out some of the content of my previous post.

“actually, let’s say that the filter is not embedded in the project” … alright, you can say that if you want to, but saying it won’t make it true 😉

  • hmmm … autoformatting kinda stripped out the important info there

it said remove everything between “< effect >” and “< / effect >” for that filter

  • the filter is embedded in the project file itself, no amount of editing the app package will help you.

you might try exporting as an XML and then editing the file to remove all instances of the De-interlace filter:
open the xml in a textt editor and do a search for “De-interlace”, in each instance remove everything between and for that filter

December 2, 2006 at 3:58 am in reply to: Blackmagic settings disapeared after using FCP Rescue

i’m with you Walter … when they go bad (which they sometimes do) simply trashing the prefs is all thats really needed, and just doing it manually is not exactly rocket science. but FCP Rescue made it that much quicker and easier, plus offered an opportunity to “backup” and “restore” a good set, and so rightfully earned its place in the hearts and Utilities folder of many a regular FCP user.

sounds like the poster in this case had not saved a backup set and simply trashed and so started fresh.

FCP Attic doesn’t fix FCP any more than FCP Rescue … it just lets you backup a bunch of your other settings, like keyboard and window layouts

heresy though it may be, in future you might want to consider switching to FCP Attic which has taken FCP Rescue to the next level
