    It seems that if you capture footage using the presets “non-controllable device” then the Media Manager cannot recompress the final project’s used footage (just what is in the timeline) into a new project without using the entire source clips. This is the same for using non timcode based audio (mp3’s, digital files, wild sound, etc…). I know this is clearly stated in the FCP manual, however I am just asking if anyone has any tips for archiving a project where you haven’s used timecoded sources.

    It would appear that Media Manager is only useful for projects where EVERYTHING has been timecoded.

    Hi David
    As you’ve noted, Media Management requires timecoded media … thats just the way it is.
    If you have captured without timecode, and yet you still want to use the Media Manager to consolidate, then you need to add the necessary timecode to media files.
    Take a look at the venerable Sebsky Tools, it includes a Batch Add Timecode function that you may be able to use to save your bacon.
