OK, glad you watched out for that. I had a friend get “a good deal” ship the G5 to a job only to have the Black Magic card not work due to the PCI only slots. He ended up trading it back to the store for the correct version.

One question about your G5 refurb:
Are you sure it actually has the PCI-X slots on the mother board to run any of the HD cards that require PCI-X? If you have a refurb with only PCI slots, you’ll be hurting later on when you want to ad a Kona2 card for HD. It won’t run in a plain jane PCI slot.
The quick way to tell if you have PCI or PCI-X, how many ram slots do you have. 4 only, then it is PCI, 8 only, then it is PCI-X.

Thanks for the info Matte. I will be backing up the project file in multiple locations on a daily basis. I was just wondering if FCP made actual batch capture lists that I could save independently.

Are your JH3 deck settings correct? Did you change the deck timing from 29.97 back to 23.98? This requires a restart of the deck after you change the system settings in the deck menu. Re-check your settings and make sure the display on the deck is reading what you are actually inputing to the Kona_2. If you are feeding the Kona_2 the wrong type of signal, I would think the Kona_2 would choke and not capture your full clips due to the timing error.
I know you might have already checked this with your deck settings, but just thought it might be a shot in the dark.
Did you update your Apple X-raid software with the update that came out a few weeks ago?

Thanks for the link Tony. Yes, I know about NOT slamming the drives till they burp 🙂 Not enough actual breathing room in the raid if you try to fill it up. I’m just trying to get a close enough estimate to what we need to actually ingest into the system. Plus I’ll be needing back up drives on this project, so I need to double my storage.

What are your RT settings set at? Not dynamic I hope. This might lead to dropped frames.
What drives are you using? The SeriTek page has a warning about using early Hitachi SATA drives that shows they are incompatible. Make sure your drives are on their approved list.

Thank you both for your input. I’ve decided to back up my material to an external drive(s) and then add drives to the raid and reformat. Figure I am taking two steps here, but I also get back up my material for archiving.

Since your steps are repeatable, I would send it into Apple as a bug. Go to the Apple feedback page and input your info. Man… do they ever need another .release for their software.
