Hello Texedit. Did you resolve this issue? And do you still have iFinish 4.6 install media? I only have the iFinish 4.5 installation disc – which only runs on Windows 2000 and not Windows XP apparently. There was an iFinish 4.6 installer of some sort that allowed iFinish to work on Windows XP. If you have this installation media, I’d love to know – as it doesn’t appear to be preserved online anywhere currently.
Yours gratefully,
Andrew. -

May 30, 2024 at 1:00 am in reply to: Playing QuickTime 601n Media 100 file on Windows systemYes, there are three approaches you can take.
1) You can export a by-reference file from Media 100, and then use another program on the G4 Mac to convert the file to something your PC will understand. You could use Quicktime Pro, Autodesk Cleaner, Macromedia Media Encoder, Apple Compressor, etc… the catch here is that perhaps these programmes will also take hours on a G4.
2) You can export in the Media 100i codec, and then simply use that codec on your PC too, and do any re-encoding to a new codec on the PC, which may be faster. The draw back here is you\’re still capturing in one codec, and then spending time converting to another.
3) You can download the latest Media 100 Suite for free from http://www.media100.com – use it on a Mac running anything between Snow Leopard to Mojave, and use a Firewire adapter to run an old camera\’s feed in. If that camera, like my Sony PD150, has RCA (yellow/red/white) phono connectors for video, and audio, you could probably hook your VHS and Hi-8 sources up to it. Then you can capture to Media 100 Suite in your choice of codecs – such as DV, Media 100i, Media 100 HD (uncompressed codec – so may be too large to be practical), or Apple Pro Res. The DV codec is likely to be widely accepted on other systems, including on your PC without any conversion needed, and the Pro Res codec may be easier to find software to convert to the codec of your choice on PC (you may have to convert Pro Res on the Mac before taking to PC).
I\’m guessing from what you\’ve said, that the second option – playing back the Media 100i codec from your G4 on your PC is probably going to be the easiest solution for you.
So let\’s hook you up with what you need for this.
Quicktime for Windows can be downloaded from Apple here:
https://support.apple.com/en-gb/106375The Windows Transcoder – to allow Quicktime for Windows to playback the Media 100i codec, can be downloaded here:
http://www.media100suite.com/files/M100WinTranscoder.zipI am uncertain where the transcoder file should be placed.
I had suggested two copies – one in ….
C:\\Windows\\System32…and one in…
C:\\Program Files\\QuickTime\\QTComponentsGareth Williams had success using Quicktime 6.5 and Windows 10.
He put the transcoder in both:
C:\\Windows\\syswow64\\QuickTime
and:
C:\\Windows\\System32facebook.com

Crikey! What about exporting to a by-reference Quicktime file, and then encoding the by-reference file to final output with another piece of software? I’ve used Quicktime Player 7 Pro and Apple Compressor both for that purpose. Or do problems occur before you even make it to the export dialogue box from where to select your export preferences?

Helo Kristian – you probably realise by now, that you simply head to Media100.com and download a copy of the latest Media 100 software – which can open old project files and the associated media. Of course, the software itself is now quite old, with the latest release running on anything from Mac OSX Snow Leopard up to MacOS Mojave. Your G4 projects probably used Media 100i software, whereas the latest is called Media 100 Suite. The latest is mostly backwards compatible, and problems will only arise if any effects such as titles or graphics added, used a different plugin to the Boris Red that ships with Media 100 Suite today. Many G4 machines were setup to use Graffetti or Boris FX rather than Boris Red. That said, any effects already render will still play back correctly – and the problems will simply be if you can open the effects up for editing them or not.
Let us know how you get on, =). There’s a Media 100 Facebook group that’s a bit more active than these Cow forums too, if that’s helpful to know of: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Media100Suite/

Thank you so much Brie! =D.

I’ve used EditReady too in a similar fashion, and since the subsequent media fast-imports to Media 100 once in Pro Res, it does seem a fast way. Of course it would be great if the two programs were integrated, so I could just bring media straight into Media 100. In terms of other ways, you can use other tools instead of EditReady – I used Sony’s Catalyst Browse just before I discovered EditReady (I think EditReady is better personally). Or you can speed things up with hardware.
Look on the Atomos website, you can filter their products by Camera – selecting Sony and PXW-FS5 for example, and see they have a number of products that can work with your camera and record straight to Pro Res so you can then immediately fast import to Media 100, without waiting for EditReady or Catalyst Browse to do their thing.

I previously had success installing ProVideo Codecs 2.0.4 …. I think in Mojave…but possibly Yosemite. =).

I haven’t tried the latest ProVideo Codecs 2.2 yet.
ProVideo Codec Links:
2.0.4 & 2.0.5 are on the Media 100 Facebook Group – you need to join to see them: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Media100Suite/permalink/1743339945695501
2.2 and 2.1.1 are on Apple’s website here:
2.2: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2050
2.1.1: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2020

…unless it’s just a matter of rebooting, for Media 100 to see them? ^_^. Heehee…

This appears to be the download link for the latest ProVideo Codecs:
https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2050
…requires at least MacOS 10.14.5
…and older versions of the ProVideo Codecs will be available for older MacOS versions, which is why I asked what MacOS you are using. You just search the apple website to find them, =). Hopefully you can still use Pacifist to extract the codecs, and then put them in the required folders, =). You say the process would not work, so let me know which part of the process didn’t work, and we can hopefully troubleshoot from there and find a new solution, =).
