  • Nah, it was me that was confusing Subtitles and Closed Captioning, and thanks to Ernie for clarifying.

Meanwhile, looking forwards to the code InfoKing, all the best with it!

  • Good luck with the programme mate.

Hey – it’s for me and you, gotta do it, so we can circulate…

I don’t produce for broadcast atm, but I do work on a shoe string, so appreciate the coding effort. Will also be interesting to see if the capability appears in future installments of editing software, although I see you’ve already criticised some of the current software efforts.

I should also point out I’m not entirely sure what closed captioning is.
Although I’ll probably look it up on Wikipedia in due course.
In part of my DVD production, there’s an interview with a Japanese guide, that I had to subtitle, but I just used Boris FX for that.

Someone else here wrote about using After Effects for CC. That’s cool, as I have that. So atm I’m blissfully ignorant, but hopefully if I ever need to know about CC, I’ll either already have capable software, or else may be able to benefit from the community’s code.

Well, I might be able to make Wednesday,
and if I do, I’ll make sure to be at the stand around noon, as suggested.

Agree it would be cool to meet.

However, I’m outside London, so will likely only commute for one of the days, most likely Thursday.

I’m afraid my setup is far more modest:
    G4
    0S9
Media100i 7.5 XS with BOB, DV Option, ICEFX Ultra & Final Effects Complete.
    Boris FX 6.1 & After Effects 5
    PD150, UWV1800p

A lot my contacts use FCP, so it would be good to meet some other Media100 users for a change.

Just had a guy from DigitalGarage get back to me, confirming the following:

“Yes we will have Media 100 version 11 (on the high end HD card) on the stand at Broadcast Live on all three days. We will be doing one on one demos and doing our best to answer as many questions as possible. Best if you come Wednesday or Thursday if you can as Boris Yamnitsky (CEO of Borisfx and Media 100) will be available if you would like to meet him”.

  • I bought an ICEfx Ultra (x8 100Mhz processors onboard) for my Media100i 7.5 running in OS9, via ebay.

The great thing about it was the plugins….they work in Adobe After Effects, but also Boris FX. So the main advantage for me was that instead of having to export to After Effects all the time, to use any decent plugins, I now had much better plugin options from Boris FX – as integrated into Media100i. So instead of exporting, I could just double click a Composition Clip in the timeline, click Edit, it would open Boris FX, I could apply my effect, exit Boris, returning to Media100, and then click “Render” to render the clip.

IceFX promises significant speed increases, but doesn’t deliver these. The IceFX I bought via Ebay came with Final Effects Complete plugins also, which I believe you can also buy as standalone software. You may be better off doing this, as 800Mhz of processing power on a card, doesn’t really make much of a difference when you’re running a 450Mhz Dual Processor G4 Mac, as I was. I had therefore 900Mhz of CPU power…and you just don’t notice the difference between that an an 800Mhz specialist card.

In short, ICEFX Ultra and Final Effect Complete, gives you some nice plugins that you can use in After Effects or Boris FX, but the hardware acceleration is insignificant compared to the power of today’s Macs.

    Thanks for the response everyone!
Am sorry I didn’t reply sooner, but I wanted to leave the thread open for a time, to give people a chance to reply.

I intend to send an email to Warren and Chris this week, explaining the documentary project and allowing you to assess whether you want to be a part of it, or whether or not you think you could help in some form.

Jacobo, I wish to send such an email to you too, but I couldn’t find an email address on your website. Do you have one I can use at all?

    Thanks in advance,

    Yours,
    Andrew Mehta.
