Following my last reply, I’ve just noticed an 8.2.3a update to Media100i on the media100 website.
It mentions “Media 100i is now compatible with Media 100 HD and Media 100 sw. This allows you to seamlessly move media between systems.”

So would another delegation method be:

My Mac is dual bootable OSX/OS9.

I currently have OSX 10.2.8 will that suffice?

I’m currently struggling with a project, and am keen to delegate, but the project has all been done on Media100 7.5.

If I upgrade my system to 8.2.2 – will projects then be inter-swappable with Media100sw, or will I have to export from M100sw as a Quicktime mov still, as I would currently have to do now?

Atm, I’m thinking my quickest & cheapest way to delegate, would be to get a second OS9 Mac off ebay, chuck my spare Vincent card in it (I stopped using it when I got my P6000), and get a freelancer to use that as a second system.

Okay, just thought I’d ask as they’re both offerred in the tune up deal, so for a moment, I wondered if they were equal counterparts on OS9 and OSX.

I have done a very crude update to the entry.

Added HD Suite, HDe and SDe and Media100i Tuneup to the “Current Products” section, and added Media100 11.5 to the announced products section.

Dunno if others want to polish my crudity.
    Er…if that’s a word. 😉

    I guess so.

I wasn’t sure, as to tell the truth I wasn’t sure whether Legacy just meant old, or was a type of port or something, but judging by the definition NetLingo.com gives, Legacy Systems are:

“An old or outdated computer system that remains in use even after more modern technology has been installed, usually because a company has invested considerable time and money into it and it still holds valuable data. A legacy system may also be an entrenched data management platform that contains proprietary, custom-designed software. Fortunately, new software products are designed to work with legacy systems (or at least to import data from them).”

So I guess it’s just a term for old software.

A quick look at Media100, and they’re not currently selling Media100i anymore, so I guess we can call it legacy.

I guess what needs to happen mainly, is to shift the “announced products” to the “current products” bit….

    Thanks for the reply.

All material is digitised at PAL 720 x 576, 48k audio [ and I traded my Vincent for a P6000 with DV Option eventually – yay! =) ]

When you say material will have to be rendered up for editing, do you mean it will slow import to SW, or will it fast import? Or can you even open Media100i Projects with SW?

Getting it back to 7.5 – Export a QT from SW – that’s kinda what I thought I might have to do. =P Hopefully, if still in the Media100i codec, it would fast import. But correct me if I’m wrong.

Anyway, sorry to ask such questions, when it’s available as a free download to experiment with, but you only get one 90 day trial, and I wouldn’t want to take it till I need it, sort of. ^_^.

I do plan to upgrade to v11 at some point next year, after I get some income from this current project ( am broke atm ). But since I’ll need a new Mac too, and a new OS, etc, etc, I’m waiting to see what ends up superceeding the PowerMac G5. Maybe something will be shown off at Apple’s WWDC in a few weeks…!?

Anyway, again, thanks for your help, and taking the time to answer my query.

  • I have a *really old* version of Media100i.
    I have 7.5 running on OS9.

I recently heard that v11 is codec independant, so I assume you could import the wmv directly(??Someone wanna double check this for me?).

Personally, since I merely have 7.5 on 0S9, I actually convert the WMVs into uncompressed AVI files, and then import the AVI into Media100.

I have a PC as well as a Mac, and I use the PC for this job, – a program called Graph Edit, which can be downloaded from Microsoft’s website for free.

The trouble is, an uncompressed AVI eats up huge amounts of hard drive space, and also takes ages to import into Media100.

Naturally, if you can obtain the original tape – fantastic, that’ll be the easiest way out.

Other than that…hang around a bit, and lots more people, who are wiser than me, and have more uptodate versions of Media100, will no doubt stop by this forum, and give you some better answers. =P

Can I just pop into this thread and quickly ask – I was previously under the impression that if you had Media 100 SW, that you could only export back out to Media100 HD, not the older versions. But reading this thread now, I’m wondering if that’s perhaps no longer the case(?).

    Can I ask therefore….(?):

    I currently have Media100i 7.5 for OS9.

If I got a friend with OSX to help with some editing, using the downloadable demo of Media100sw (90 day trial), would they then be able to pass the files back to me for me to master in my Media100i 7.5?

If you can let us know I’ld be grateful.

Atm, am taking a bit too long to finish a project, and could do with delegating.

Yes, unfortunately, I am having delegation problems since I only have Media100i 7.5 for OS9, and all my freelance contacts use FCP.

Ironically, my motivation to upgrade to Media100 HD at some point next year (am too broke atm, I only got M1007.5 ‘cos it was cheap on ebay), is because it apparently makes life so much easier when interchanging stuff with FCP. In fact, in an ideal world I would have both on the same system, on dual boot.

For now though, I struggle on my own OS9 Media100i SD system, hesitant to delegate work loads to FCP colleagues. =P Pappity Pap.

    Andrew,
    Swindon, UK.

P.S. When Media100 HD v11 was demonstrated to me at Broadcast Live, I was told you could work in M100 in a number of different codecs, so if you wanted to export to FCP to continue, as long as you chose a compatible codec at the start of the project, there would be no probs.

  • Nothing like that about the Sony Name here:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SONY#Company_Name

And Soni means goldsmith in various indian languages:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soni_%28language%29

Meanwhile, Japanese company names are discussed here:
    https://www.languagehat.com/archives/001733.php
    And someone called Dave claims:
“I had always heard the story that “Sony” was derived from “Sound” and “Nippon”, i.e. “So-Ni” with a friendlier spelling.” – although the Wikipedia story at the top, that I linked to first, would have us believe that is not the case, but a mere myth.

Okay, sorry for going off topic.
