I have an old cd with a media 100 project on it – I also have the original media files. How would I go about accessing this project and exporting a fresh version? (back then I remember just playing back the timeline and recording it realtime to a DVD, so not ideal). I spent a lot of time editing this thing back in the day and I don’t have the resulting DVD and the recipient back then has unfortunately lost it.

I seem to recall it was made on a G4 mac. No idea of software version. Probably a bit older than 2003 as it was a school and the didn’t update things all that much.

How would you go about it? Thanks.

Helo Kristian – you probably realise by now, that you simply head to Media100.com and download a copy of the latest Media 100 software – which can open old project files and the associated media. Of course, the software itself is now quite old, with the latest release running on anything from Mac OSX Snow Leopard up to MacOS Mojave. Your G4 projects probably used Media 100i software, whereas the latest is called Media 100 Suite. The latest is mostly backwards compatible, and problems will only arise if any effects such as titles or graphics added, used a different plugin to the Boris Red that ships with Media 100 Suite today. Many G4 machines were setup to use Graffetti or Boris FX rather than Boris Red. That said, any effects already render will still play back correctly – and the problems will simply be if you can open the effects up for editing them or not.

Let us know how you get on, =). There’s a Media 100 Facebook group that’s a bit more active than these Cow forums too, if that’s helpful to know of: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Media100Suite/
