Start stop detection.. Not sure if it will help you, cause I have never used it (I log the tape like everyone else)

Upgrade upgrade upgrade.
Mediamanager has been getting better and better, and I find I have very seldom any problems with the latest version of fcp, compared to the hell I used to go through with earlier versions
Remember that the upgrade is extremely cheap, and will probably solve all your problems.

The mac does not see the card at all.. at least that is what is happening after a little bit of use. Tried two different macs. Lots of strange hardware problems using the card, and then it will eventually loose connection to the card.. Everything up to date. latest drivers and fcp

I have never tried the AJA, but I have heard over at the decklink forum that there is the same problem on the AJA card. You have to get yourself a cheap dv player it seems..

This is a known problem.. Check out the decklink forum. You have to make it run throught a dv player using firewire to get rid of the flickering. Decklink does not support this feature in FCP .. yet.. (I hope it will come.. please Blackmagic. please)

Almost exact same setup. Xsan.. 12 clients.. capturing dv though firewire. Lately we are having the exactly the same problems !!! We have been using 2 hour tapes, but are switching to 1 hour tapes cause I thought that would be cause of the problems.. well.. hmm. Maybe this is an xsan 1.4 issue ?
