Apple Raid failure
Drive #5 in my XRAID just failed. The alarm went off and I put in my backup and the light went from yellow to green but it did not build. Now the video is all choppy. I put the bad drive back in and the yellow light went back to green and the video is working again, but its only a matter of time before it goes bad again.
I have all 14 drives filled with 250gb’s and I have them striped as one drive using 30 or 50 (cant remember)using software. Any idea why I can not replace the bad drive? my understanding is that you can take one out, put in a new one and it will build back up without any data loss. And of course I have a project due. -

I don’t have one. But I do know it takes a good amount of time for a RAID5 to rebuild when the volume is that large. Video might be choppy because the thing is busy rebuilding.

I would agree to that except the lights are not flickering. They just stand there green. They would be flashing blue if they were rebuilding. Also, I rebooted the computer and the raid and now the raid is not visible as a volume on the computer. All the lights are still green on the raid, all 14 drive lights green and all 8 green lights (4 on each raid)
