Thats INSANE ! Are you talking about Avids, and PC’s ?? Remember FCP runs on a system that does not have a single os virus. !!! I am in charge of 10 suites that make high quality broadcast stuff 20 hours every day. I am VERY liberal, and let all editors to do whatever they will with the system. They can install apps… download stuff, check mails.. ANYTHING
No problems whatsoever. No mac having problems from that stuff at all. Everything works great. If you think you need to be restrictive, maybe you don’t know osx good enough.
For me.. this is one of the biggest advantage with macs.
Running pc’s and avids, I can totally understand that you you want to be restrictive

You are NOT supposed to open the FCP package. The render files are in the project folder, together with the capture scratch folder ..etc.
Very strange that reinstalling did not work. Try deleting the prefs files. Use the great utility fcp rescue. (look for it at macupdate.com)
Good luck, you will probably get a good grip on whats going on in a short while

June 4, 2006 at 3:21 pm in reply to: Any thoughts on FCP vs. Symphony Nitris for HD online and color correction?I don’t have much info on Avid, but I can at least tell you that we use FCP alot for heavy broadcast CC, and in most cases I think it’s just fine. When FCP doesn’t work good enough we use Final Touch, which is sorta getting better and better, and most of the serious bugs have been fixed. Final touch has replaced a couple of Davincis and I think the workflow is quite nice. FinalTouch is quite cheap for what you get.

Maybe you don’t have the correct priveleges to write to your render folder (then you will get the error message as you describe). Try deleting your renderfiles folder, and try to render again. You will lose your already rendered files, but FCP will create a new render folder with correct priveleges.
OR use Disk util and run check Disk priveleges.
