  • Need Help: Video Playback a 24fps sequence on a Pal TV

Hi, I need to play correctly sequences edited coming from 35mm material filmed at 24fps.

These are the the steps I’ve done but I’ve a problem with playback on TV Monitor.

1 – I import Telecine logs from Cinema Tools creating a Database from a .flx file
2 – I Capture the automatic Batch Capture from Beta SP recorded at 25fps. (after a check every timecode and keycode burned on film correspond to timecode and keycode in Cinema Tools and Final Cut)
3 – Then I conform the clips with Cinema Tools from 25fps to 24fps.
4 – I sync the video subclips with the audio clips.
5 – I play these clips on the timeline with 24 fps setting on Digital Cinema Desktop with excellent results.
6 – When I set the video playback out to my Sony Monitor Pal I have this issue: the video is flickering using 24@25 pulldown or there’s a soft freeze every 24 frames using 24@25 repeat.

    Many thanks for help !

Please help me to find a way to have a smooth playback ! Thanks.

This is a known problem.. Check out the decklink forum. You have to make it run throught a dv player using firewire to get rid of the flickering. Decklink does not support this feature in FCP .. yet.. (I hope it will come.. please Blackmagic. please)

Thanks a lot. However, there’s another broadcast card capable of 24fps playout on PAL TV monitor ? (AJA Kona Lhe ?)

I have never tried the AJA, but I have heard over at the decklink forum that there is the same problem on the AJA card. You have to get yourself a cheap dv player it seems..

I have the same problem. I’m working in Hong Kong and my Telecine is PAL 25 fps my film footage is 24 fps. It runs okay on LCD monitors. It jerks once every 24 frames only when it’s converted into PAL video, to a monitor or straight to the TV. When you say play it through a DV camera, how does that help? I think I have tried that and I had the same stuttering problem. I presume you mean PAL DV camera, right?

    Thanks.
