Yea, I thought that as well when I was naive FCP user.

Seems you need a workaround. Open your tga sequence in QTpro and export a high quality (animation or uncompressed codec) QT mov – make sure you use ‘millions of colours+’ to keep your alpha then use that in FCP. Lame eh?

At least there’s no level change between your ani_0000.tga and the resulting mov.

I’m only using FCP5.0 so they may have improved this.

    Alas, sorry no.

But think about a series of cardboard cutouts placed at different distances in front of the camera.

I’ve done a bit in Cinema4D and AfterEffects.

The most time consuming thing is creating the masks – which I did in Photoshop.

One technique I’ve seen recently and looks good, is an artificial 3D layering. Whereby the centre of interest of the still is masked out and put on a layer closer to the camera than the backround. Pseudo 3D movement can then be fudged.

Splines aren’t renderable in c4d as they are in Max. You’ll have to sweep nurbs it.

There’s a freebie plugin, I think it’s called fastpipe, that will do it automatically for you if you need lots of them.

I second that about Maya. Max is deep but a bit more intuitive.

Adam, I’ve never really understood the point of being able to have a camera object anything other than perspective.

Am I missing something here, do you EVER use any other projection on your camera objects?

Thanks Brian I’ll give it a go.

It’s only the educational version of C4D I’m running so don’t think I’ll have the Presets available in the browser.
