    [Chris Smith] “Here is an example of what Mark is talking about. From the description, he used 3 lights (R,G, and B) in 3 seperate passes. But for each pass he changed the angle of incidence on the glassy material a little each time then comped them back together.

    ” target=”_blank”>https://www.hypa.tv/tims/logocaustic.html”

    Yep, I think that’s the best way to do it in Cinema, since we don’t have true dispersion. Maxwell Render, which is a third-party render engine (beta) with a Cinema connection, can do this for real. Takes forever though.

  • [Kevin Snyder] “Is there any way to export null layer (or a plane) position and rotation to After Effects?”

    Not directly, but you can use lights as null pointers to create your plane in AE. Just place a light at each corner and turn brightness to zero.

    That’s strange. I’d have expected the two machines to perform roughly the same in rendering. https://www.3dfluff.com/mash/cbdual.php

    How to draw a sausage in 15 seconds or less:

    create a rectangle spline;

    make it editable;

    points mode, select all;

    structure>edit spline>chamfer (also in r-click context menue);

    drag the mouse until you can’t chamfer any more.

    That’s it. What’s that analogy about computers and sausage? 🙂

    It looks like an Ambient Occlusion pass, which will be available in R9.5–https://www.3danvil.com/AO001.jpg

    Or, you can get the same sort of look by using radiosity. Use a plain white material on the object (no specular), add a sky dome with a white material in the luminance channel. Turn on radiosity. Render!

    Are you clicking and dragging when you create your points? Otherwise you’ll only get hard interpolation and it’ll look like a linear spline.

    I’d have said no a week ago, but Darf’s been back on CGTalk the last few days and it sounds like he might be coming around. Here’s hoping….

    The easiest way to do this, IMO, is to animate a gradient in the alpha channel. Sample scene: https://www.3danvil.com/Fade_Grade.c4d

    Note: you’ll only see the effect when you render.

    It should be fairly easy to model this with hyperNURBS, or you might even be able to do it with the bevel tool.

    Use the spline deformer.
