  • Bezier spline in 9.102 on a mac

Posted by Solie Swan on August 8, 2005 at 10:56 pm

On a Mac (10.4.2) running Cinema4d v9.102, I am unable to create bezier spline – it simply creates linear lines point to point. Under 8.5 I have no problems. Maxon tech support has been very responsive and prompt in their replies but have not been able to solve the problem. With a copy of the file I sent them they too had the same issue. They suggested a reinstall which I have done but the problem persists. Anyone else on a mac having this problem?

    Thanks

Are you clicking and dragging when you create your points? Otherwise you’ll only get hard interpolation and it’ll look like a linear spline.

Thanks for the suggestion Adam – I am doing the same in 9.1 as what I am doing in 8.5 (where it is working fine) – select Bezier and left click the mouse button and while keeping the button down dragging. It seems to be something just affecting my machine – I checked on another mac and it works as expected. If I could figure out how, I would include a copy of the file for you to look at.

I’m not sure if I understand you right.
You say “it simply creates linear lines point to point”
but that’s exactly what it is suppose to do.
When you click at different positions you just create a straight line.
If you click and drag you create a Bezier-Handle and round the point.
Or after you have finished select all and choose Soft Interpolation.

When I click and drag while creating a bezier point in 9.1x, nothing happens. When I create the next point, it is linear. When I do this in 8.5, it creates the tangent handles and allows me to create a curve. Under 9.1x, I cannot adjust the points later on, even when using soft selection – I select the point and try to drag it but nothing happens. What is interesting is that in 8.5 when I click and drag on a point, the on-screen icon changes to a small square with three lines (x, y, and z axis) with arrowheads. In 9.1x, it has round balls, not the arrowheads and in the coordinates manager the rotation values change as I drag but as soon as I let go of the mouse, they snap back to 0,0,0. Anyone know how to add a file and I will upload it.

    Thanks for your responses.

Well, that sounds all very strange to me.
You don’t have by any chance locked your X-Y-Z-Axis
in coordination with your Bezier-Spline ?

    Cheers
