    Hi there,

Just trying to get to grips with Cinema, and have the basics to hand. One thing I struggle with, is actually finding a way to “Build” objects onto the screen. With like a fade in, or flash in or something.

The only way I have been able to do it so far, is with a boolean to wipe it on like a mask, however this is quite clunky and has a hard sharp edge.

Whats the best way to make object appear, do you have to do it using the material manager, and make it appear changing the material manger (transparent, to white, to normal material for example) as Im sure there must be an easier way.

Can anyone shed a little light here please 🙂

If you are going to get that complex with reveals, you may want to render out your project in passes and treat each layer seperately in the composite stage.

Other than that, if you are talking about doing the “flash” thing I think you are describing whithin C4D, yeah, then I think you may want to keyframe some material parameters. Like keyframe the luminance and glow to hit in a short blip then they fade out to only leave the material’s normal settings.

Also, in the posts below we’ve talked a bit about experiments with the alpha channel to do more interesting reveals.

excellent, I have tried doing multipasses in things like After effects, and doing wipe ons that way with certain filters, the only trouble is when people come to change projects, it means a lot of extra work.

Plus, it can be difficault with things like reflections etc.

Brilliant suggestions otherwise though, thanks so far!

The easiest way to do this, IMO, is to animate a gradient in the alpha channel. Sample scene: https://www.3danvil.com/Fade_Grade.c4d

Note: you’ll only see the effect when you render.
