even without PA, you could probably use a script to enclose each event within a region, then use the built-in batch render script to render each region as separate file

was running V8 on Vista 64 business for its entire lifespan, so no problems here
I think it’s more likely to be the codec that was used to export the AE file is causing hiccups

vegas SHOULD split the clips exactly the same way you describe it in premiere, and it does on my machines.
I looked in the internal preferences (hold down SHIFT when clicking OPTIONS/PREFERENCES) but couldn’t find a switch that explained your behaviour – hopefully someone will be able to do so, or you’ll need to try reinstalling vegas.

something wrong with your situation. wmv is a slower render than mpeg2 IMHO, but never that kind of figure you’re describing. Your machine is PLENTY fast enough.
just download a trial copy of Vegas Pro from sony, and give it a bash with your media files. That would at least allow us to determine whether the problem lies with WMM or your source files.

what rate did you render it at, in terms of mbs?
max should be 8mbs
also, to create a .mov, you shouldn’t be using DVDA at all, since not creating a DVD, and Vegas has far more control over rendering customisation than DVDA.

he’s using the trial version, so he won’t be able to render to mpeg2…..
you’ll need to shell out the cash and buy something that can do it, or use Super to convert to mpeg2 as has been suggested (NOT the AVI converter thing. No need to pay for that)
if using vegas, your bitrate for a mpeg2 shouldn’t exceed 8mbs – otherwise it won’t work on some players etc.
average for a 1 hour / 13GB file is prob going to be around 6mbs or so.
