Production Assistant rendering clips from events in timeline?

How would you incorporate this in the action of Assistant? Because Assistant will have to make the selection for every event one by one.

even without PA, you could probably use a script to enclose each event within a region, then use the built-in batch render script to render each region as separate file

Thanks. Yes, I was wondering if PA could do that instead of using the batch script in Vegas. Seems like it should (thought I saw it in the video on the Sony site with DSE) but now I’m not sure. I’ll have to review, I guess.

One type of project I frequently work on involves extracting tons of clips from 1-2hr files, placing them in the timeline in sections for a given topic. Then I was thinking I could render out the clips in each section to a folder (windows media is what I want to have in the end), as this is what I need in the end, files for a topic in a their own folder. I have tried selecting the area of the timeline and selecting the individual clips and then processing but it wants to make one file out of all of them. I see in the PA interface that it says ‘process individual files’ so not sure I’m reading that correctly?

Yes, you read that correct. If you choose in the first tab (source media) to use media files, you can have them rendered to separate files or as one project on the timeline. But when you choose CURRENT PROJECT AS SOURCE, this will be seen by Assistant as only one item.

So I guess the solution is to maybe use PA to automate creating regions in the timeline – but then it starts rendering the whole timeline so cancel that – and then use the Batch Script to render the regions out to the format and location I want.(?) Unless anyone has a better flow…

Actually, Ultimate S Pro can do this with it’s Render tab. Production Assistant assumes you want to process multiple files in batch mode and is not really set up to render regions interactively.

Thanks, I had UltimateS way back… I don’t know when. (I’m trying to get my info sent to me in email). Looks like it will do what I want and lots more.

So, is there any reason to use PA over UltimateS Pro? Both made by VASST, right? Wonder why UltimateS Pro wasn’t the offering if it does all and maybe more?

John, how would I alter the Windows Media output settings in UltimateS Pro? There’s a 512Kbps then jumps to 3Mbps. I need a 2Mbps. Possible? I don’t see an ‘edit’ button to alter.

Yes. Production Assistant is geared toward batch “processing” not just batch rendering. Ultimate S Pro cannot batch “process” (i.e., add FX, crop, add overlays / underlays, etc. automatically as a process list). All of the processing is done interactively with US Pro. Production Assistant can also automate the composition of projects using templates starting outside of Vegas. PA will continue to focus on adding more automation capabilities while US Pro will continue to focus on more interactive editing capabilities.

Just make a new WMV template under File | Render As… and then close and open Ultimate S Pro and it will pick up the new template.
