if the text / lines are not broadcast safe, they can do that when viewed on a TV
make sure white and black are set to 235,235,235 and 16,16,16 in your RGB values, rather than 255,255,255 and 0,0,0.
or just apply a broadcast clamp to the output as a whole, though the normal video might not need it.

also, because it’s so simple, make sure you do the same thing with the SHIFT key down, and also with the CTRL key down

2 easy methods:
1) put cursor at start point, and push ‘S’ for split. Do same at end point. Apply FX to that new clip.
2) apply FX to entire clip. In the Properties for that FX, there will be a timeline at the bottom. You need to create keyframes, for the changes in use of the effect. Is very useful to turn on the SYNC CURSOR button at bottom left of the FX timeline, to get timings right.
a possible third alternative is to duplicate the track, apply FX to top track, and use the track Compositing envelope to adjust opacity of the top track. Would be easiest method IF you had lots of variation in the particular FX, and wanted to use the envelope method.

have found I suddenly need to use Nikon Capture to control my D70 for time lapse recording, and Capture doesn’t like vista, so XP going on to my system tomorrow

well, only real hassle for me was initial problem with DVDA not wanting to open / run. Turned out (purely by trial and error) that DEP had to be disabled for DVDA, then it worked fine.
Would I use vista64 if I had to build another machine right now? Sure. No reason to use XP (which is on my other 2 machines)

I don’t know what the complications might be, but is common experience that XP should go on first. You can always give the opposite method a try…….
