vista64 business works fine for me for vegas. no hassles since day one. was a self install.

yes, you can dual boot. just install xp first, if you want to set it up.

no partic brand of PC is better than another, IMHO – is more about the partic spec you buy.

I use swishmax a bit, and also have AE CS3 – depends on what I’m trying to do. Got the Swish first. Anything you animate inside Swish can be imported into Vegas (ie.e not just text) but actionscript won’t work (eg interactivity)

swish is good for text because it’s so fast.

if you have too many effects / too many layers, preview can slow down. to watch slow stuff, first highlight that partic section with In/Out points, then press SHIFT + B to RAM preview it.
how much it can ram preview is effected by your ram allocated in system preferences of vegas

i’ve been doing same thing this week – 3 vids extracted from single dvd.
all worked fine for me. My dvd original was 25fps so I changed the template to do the same.

when you run the PPT, does it lose sync the first time you run it?
PPT likes to cache media & animation, so I usually recommend the client runs the whole slide show once through, before showing to audience – then the transitions/animations are smooth. Am wondering if you have a related issue

also, what size are your wmvs? PPT doesn’t like anything over 100MB, so such files have to be linked to play in their native player (as one has to do with QT files in PPT).

highlight a clip, and press R for regions. Name the region

Once done to all clips, can render regions as separate movies

TOOLS/SCRIPTING/BATCH RENDER and choose REGIONS at the bottom

nope, do it in the DVD stage – that was my intention. could drop the markers to indicate the chapters in vegas itself, but all the rest in DVDA

I assume you have one long movie, containing multiple chapters. each chapter is a separate piece you want to play, individually.

1) add the movie more than once – for each section you wish to play
2) rename the individual movies /chapters accordingly
3) for each instance of the movie, double click it to bring up the timeline, then drag the yellow IN / OUT marker points to set that chapter’s limits

although you might add the movie many times, it will only be stored on the DVD once

search the help for RIPPLE editing (essential knowledge), or highlight all the clips in the ‘group’ and press ‘G’ – they will now move together (until you select them again and use ‘U’ to ungroup the same)

you can also press ‘D’ to cycle through the selection cursors, rather than have to use the buttons at the top

usually chapters play for partic position to the end of the movie. since you want to return to the main menu after each chapter, you have to add the movie multiple times, and position the IN & OUT points for each one – the movie will only actually be on the disk once.
