The picture preview is slow and misses frames as cursor plays over an event with picture-in-picture 3D track motion effects. I’ve read that effects are previewed in real-time without rendering. Is there anything in Options or Preferences or settings to be clicked for real time? (Vegas5) thanks

if you have too many effects / too many layers, preview can slow down. to watch slow stuff, first highlight that partic section with In/Out points, then press SHIFT + B to RAM preview it.
how much it can ram preview is effected by your ram allocated in system preferences of vegas

You can reduce the preview quality to Draft/Auto which will give you a better framerate.

Recently, the preview display has become set to (auto)-size. The resolution quality changes from draft to good to best, but, the size now only stays at auto, and full size no longer shows. What could have happened with settings?

Sounds like it’s time to consult Sony Tech Support.
I’ve never heard of this happening.
