Can Sony Vegas Pro 8 convert files to flash?
Ive been uploading videos to youtube with vegas 8 pro useing all the tips for rendering to mpg2, mpg4, and custom wmv files, but there is little to no improvement with my quality. I shoot progressive scan with a SonyPD150, and the quality of my camera is deserving of good online videos.
Ive been reading that if you render your file to a “Flash” file, the quality will greatly improve. Id like to try this, but the flash rendering option is not available on my program.
Any ideas?

Vegas does not have a built-in means of going to flash. You’ll need to render from Vegas and then use some other program to convert that file to flash.

I’ve used a couple of the converter programs. I’d suggest you try On2 Flix. They have a couple of programs but the best for the buck is the $39 one (as opposed to $250) and you have a lot of control. Try the VP6 templates, even 300 on the bitrate. I used it at

The problem with Flix Standard ($39) is it does not include the ability to make an SWF player. It also does not support dual pass. If you are an academic, they have a reduced price for the pro ($249) version. I use the pro version and once I figured out how to use it, love it. Elsewhere on Cow I’ve posted details about using it.

I hope I can explain this properly. I have been using sony vegas for a little over a year, and just decided to upgrade to Vegas Pro 8. What I notice is, unlike vegas seven, when the video is loaded into pro 8, it is very short on the timeline and the cursor (as a result) moves really slow (like it does when I load a rendered video in architect). It makes it really hard to edit and split into different events. I hope this is clear. I think I might be doing something wrong in the programme. it works fine in vegas 7 but I like 8 and would love to get that sorted out. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Vegas 8 automatically zooms out to full project length unless you manually change the project length. I don’t like this behavior either. You can prevent it if you manually adjust the length slightly smaller before adding the clip or you can adjust it back after the clip is loaded.

I wish I understood. could anyone shed some light on how to adjust the project length then. I really don’t know what next. I feel like I will have to revert to vegas 7, which would be sad.

Put the mouse over the timeline and scroll the WHEEL. It doesn’t adjust the project “length”, it controls how much of the timeline you see at one time.

also, because it’s so simple, make sure you do the same thing with the SHIFT key down, and also with the CTRL key down

You don’t want to upload a flash file to YouTube. YouTube now re-converts everything automatically to flash so you’re loosing quality by having it encoded twice.Best way now is to create a WMV file.
